United Airlines Plane Lands Safely After Losing Wheel on Takeoff
Wheel Recovered; Investigation Underway
A United Airlines Boeing 757-200 lost a main landing gear wheel while taking off from Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) on Monday, August 15, 2023. The plane, which was bound for Denver International Airport (DEN), completed its flight safely and landed at DEN without further incident.
According to a statement from United Airlines, the wheel was recovered in Los Angeles and an investigation into the cause of the incident is underway. A spokesperson for the airline said that a similar incident occurred with another Boeing 757-200 on Monday, August 14, 2023, also resulting in the loss of a main landing gear wheel during takeoff.
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) is also investigating the incidents. A spokesperson for the FAA said that the agency is working with United Airlines to determine the cause of the wheel losses and to take appropriate action to prevent similar incidents in the future.
