In a high-scoring affair, the Edmonton Oilers defeated the Los Angeles Kings 7-4 in Game 1 of their first-round playoff series on Tuesday night. The Oilers were led by Connor McDavid, who had a goal and two assists, and Leon Draisaitl, who scored twice.
The Oilers scored the game's first goal just over three minutes into the first period when McDavid found Draisaitl in the slot for a one-timer. The Kings tied the game later in the period on a goal by Dustin Brown, but the Oilers regained the lead before the end of the period on a goal by Kailer Yamamoto.
The Oilers extended their lead to 3-1 early in the second period on a goal by Evan Bouchard, but the Kings again came back to tie the game on goals by Adrian Kempe and Viktor Arvidsson. The Oilers took the lead for good later in the period on a goal by Jesse Puljujarvi, and they added two more goals in the third period to seal the victory.
